Keep it Quiet For Public Land Duck Hunting

So you’ve done your scouting and found a hidden honeyhole crawling with ducks. It’s tempting to call three or four of your buddies for a barn burner shoot, but it’s a sure way to cut future public land duck hunting in that area short.

Multiple shooting volleys with four or five guns attract the attention of other hunters – and are likely to run ducks out of the area, too.

A better option is to hunt alone or with one close buddy. Get in, shoot your limit and get out so the ducks can rest. You can keep a spot to yourself and prospects for future hunts will be much better.

My first reply was meant for you. Not the other guys who value a solo hunt.

I hunt with just me and my dog a lot, more times then not I prefer it that way. Absolute solitude

I found a spot once and told a couple of friends about the spot. They told a couple friends and before I knew it there were people there every time I went out. The place became know as "Mallard City". It wasn't long before all of the ducks avoided the place like the plague. Keep your mouth shut and enjoy great hunts.

Maybe you should take up beer and NASCAR…you don't sound like someone I'd want to hunt with anyway. Tell someone about your good spot, and the world will be there the next time you go out. Bet on it.

I agree, hunting by myself makes the ducks last almost the whole season in a few of my favorite spots. I'll hunt with my cousin here and there because he and I both know if word gets out ,then say goodbye to the sweet spots. So we both keep it to ourselves and the season is awesome!

I always hunt alone. Goose and duck. Deer I go with a group.

Hunting is more about friends and good times for me. The harvest is important, but whole experience is more important. So you have to scout each time? This is just a part of the package.

I also feel you can make a good Honeyhole;my brother an I, paid to have a road , in a farmers field graveld which provides the gritt that all birds need an usualy go to as soon as they leave the roost ,and helps the farmer, which makes some great Goose Hunting.
