The waterfowling world lost a legend in January 2026 with the passing of John Gordon. A lot of us lost a great friend as well. John is perhaps best known for his role as Senoir Communications Specialist at Ducks Unlimited, where he spearheaded the popular DU Nation YouTube series. He touched a lot of lives with that show.
John was born in Mississippi, attended Kingwood High School in Kingwood, TX, then graduated from Mississippi State University in 1992 with a degree in Communications. Before DU, John was a goose guide on the Texas prairie and later guided at Beaver Dam Hunting Services. He also held positions at Sportsman's Warehouse and Avery Outdoors, and he was a contributing feature writer to WILDFOWL magazine.
John loved the feel of a good shotgun, the retrieve of a good dog, and the satisfaction of a clean shot on a hard bird. He was proudest of his son, Reed Gordon, who carries the family legend in the blind forward.
John will be missed. The flame may be gone, but not the spark.
